Beringer Winery Howell Mt. Merlot
Merlot -- Elegant and complex, with herb-scented black cherry, currant, coffee and cranberry notes, finishing with firm, dry tannins, but enough fruit pushes forth to hold your interest.--California Merlot retrospective. Drink now through 2005.
Beringer Vineyard Private Reserve Cabernet
A tightly wound wine from a classic vintage, with a firm band of cedar and spice wrapped around a core of ripe plum, blackberry and black cherry. It fans out to reveal hints of olive and smoke, firming on the finish. Best from 2002 through 2011.
The 1997 Merlot Bancroft Ranch (100% new oak) is a dense, full-bodied effort exhibiting black cherry liqueur, chocolate, mineral, and lead pencil aromas and flavors. Fleshy, full-bodied, and chewy, it will be undeniably seductive upon release. It should drink well for 15+ years.
