Coltibuono Winery

Italian Wine, Tuscany

About Coltibuono Vineyard Wines

Coltibuono Winery was constructed three years ago at the center of the fifty hectares (123.5 acres) of Coltibuonos vineyards situated in Monti in Chianti. It had long been obvious that the estate needed a new vinification cellar. With the growth of the last two decades, the existing production facilities had become obsolete and insufficient.

Coltibuono Winery was constructed to be not only technologically advanced but also to have a sound environmental impact. This is an obvious confirmation of the dedication of the owners to the culture of Chianti Classico and Coltibuonos centuries-old presence in the zone. Although it was conceived with criteria of respect for the landscape and its spirit, the winery has an absolutely modern aspect. Its design meets todays standards and displays a contemporary esthetic clearly inspired by the great Italian architectural tradition of the classical and Renaissance periods.

Coltibuono Winery makes use of highly advanced vinification technologies selected with the objective of producing wines of high quality in the simplest but most efficient way possible. Efforts have been made, through construction of a structure operating on the principle of gravity, to assure delicate processing of the grapes so that they will fully express their characteristics and their uniqueness.

Coltibuono Winery has introduced a table for the manual sorting of grapes so that all defective clusters are eliminated; a conveyor belt to transfer the de-stemmed grapes to the fermentation tanks; vats of smaller size for separate vinification of grapes coming from different vineyards and a system for punching down the cap with pistons for managing the cap during fermentation.

Native yeasts are used in fermenting the wines, in an effort to respect and preserve the flavor and unique character of Coltibuono. The maturation of the wines in wood is carried out mostly in casks to ensure that oak does not dominate. When small barrels are used, as in the Sangioveto, care is taken to balance new and older oak, so as not to cover the fruit, whose characteristics must be respected.

Coltibuono Winery Chianti Classico

Is an intense ruby red colour; captivating and inviting on the nose with a fruity scent of prune together with notes of violets and iris. It opens up following on from complex aromas of cocoa and coffee accompanied by a hint of mint. It has very pleasant tannins on the palate with a soft astringency and a well-balanced acidity which gives a well-balanced sensation that ends in a very persistent and extremely enjoyable finale.

Coltibuono Winery Chianti Classico Riserva

Intense and bright ruby red garnet. It has a pleasing bouquet, with notes of ripe blackberries and dark cherries. A strong first impact which develops favourably and highlights the energetic tannis which nonetheless have a gentle centre. Very precise and clear with a long-lasting after-note. Has great potential for ageing.

Coltibuono Winery Riserve Storiche

The nose has gone beyond caramel with candide apple and sherry notes. The colour’s turning brown on the edges. But underneath all that is an eclectic elixir, a heady mix of vanilla-enriched fruit and earthy sweetness. This is fully mature and an unbelievable treat for wine lovers.

Coltibuono Winery Sangioveto

Luminous deep ruby red in color with an intense bouquet on the nose. It has well-defined fruit flavours of blackberries with a hint of cinnamon and cloves underneath. Very fine tannins give the wine length and a wonderful deep structure. It is ready to drink now, very clear and well structured with an aftertaste of ripe cherries.

Coltibuono Winery Vin Santo

Vin Santo is made from the native white Tuscan grapes Trebbiano and Malvasia. After harvest, the grapes are hung up in a well-ventilated room and left to dry for at least three months before being pressed. The must is then allowed to ferment in small oak barrels which are sealed and it is left to age for a minimum of four years.
