About De Bortoli Winery and Vineyard

De Bortoli Wines is an exciting, innovative family owned wine company established in 1928. The winemaking team is overseen by third generation winemaker Darren De Bortoli and brother-in-law Steve Webber.

This dynamic pair have been responsible for many winemaking developments at De Bortoli. In the early 1980s Darren De Bortoli created the world acclaimed Noble One Botrytis Semillon. Steve Webber established the company's premium Yarra Valley winery in the early 1990s and is also responsible for overseeing the company's King Valley vineyards and Hunter Valley winery and vineyards.

The winemaking philosophy is that good wine begins in the vineyard, that the winemaker should use minimal handling and interference in the winemaking process and that wine should have a sense of regionality and be an expression of the soil in which it is grown.

Our winemakers are striving to create wines that they find interesting and exciting - wines that may be a bit quirky or different but wines that above all have provenance and a sense of place.

Noble One

Since its release Noble One has been awarded 98 Trophies and 318 Gold Medals including 95 International Awards. Freshly graduated from Roseworthy developed Noble One during the 1980s with the 1982 Botrytis Semillon Sauternes being the first successful vintage. It created an immediate sensation in the wine world winning a swag of trophies and medals both in Australia and overseas. Since 1990 as a result of a bilateral trade agreement between European Economic Community countries and Australia when the latter agreed to phase out the use of geographic regions and expressions on wine labels, the wine has been designated Noble One and has become Australia's benchmark dessert wine.
