Heitz Cellars

California Wine, Napa Valley

About Heitz cellars Winery and Vineyard

When Heitz Cellars opened in 1961, the Napa Valley had fewer than twenty wineries. Today there are more than two hundred. The original winery on St. Helena Highway is still open to the public as a sales and tasting room for visitors and is a glimpse into the origins of Heitz Cellars. Within a few years Heitz Cellars had outgrown the original premises and purchased the present 160 acre residence and ranch on Taplin Road, a narrow fold in the hills just east of St. Helena. The home property was originally developed as a vineyard and winery in the 1880s by the Swiss-Italian family of Anton Rossi. The beautiful old stone cellar built in 1898 has made the transition through time and the Heitz family continues to age fine wines within, carrying on the tradition of the art of fine wine making in the Napa Valley. Heitz Wine Cellars has also expanded to include 350 acres of prime vineyards situated in the heart of the Napa Valley. From 1985 onward these vineyards have produced most of the grapes for Heitz wines, except the two legendary vineyard designated Cabernet Sauvignons from "Martha's Vineyard" and "Bella Oaks Vineyard."

Heitz Winery 2001 Chardonnay

The 2001 Napa Valley Chardonnay is a beautifully crafted dry Chardonnay. The floral freshness and elegant varietal fruit of this wine are well integrated with bright lemon flavors. This is a wonderfully succulent wine for sipping and yet the crisp acidity will match well with most foods. We especially find it appealing with grilled seafood or fresh Dungeness crab. A racy wine from start to finish.

Heitz Winery 1999 Cabernet

The 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet is a compelling and expressive wine. It is rich and enticing from the minute you experience the depth of its aroma and spicy bottle bouquet. On the palate the varietal flavors are vibrant and well integrated with the solid tannins which will ensure its longevity. The 1999 vintage was outstanding in the Napa Valley and the superb complexities from the fruit shine in this wine. A noble Cabernet Sauvignon from start to finish.

Heitz Winery 2002 Grignolino Rosé

The 2002 Heitz Grignolino Rosé catches your attention at first glance with its attractive rich pink color. This wine just sparkles in the glass. The Grignolino grape historically is a classic Italian variety from the Piedmont region of Italy. Renowned for its distinct fruitiness it makes an exceptional Rosé. Light hearted and fresh with enticing floral overtones and a crispness on the palate that is so refreshing on a warm summer day.

Heitz Cellars 2000 Zinfandel

The Heitz Cellars 2000 Zinfandel has a distinct varietal aroma with a touch of briar and black pepper. Medium bodied in the mouth, this Zinfandel is rich and lush with enough acidity for overall balance and aging. The Zinfandel grapes in this wine come entirely from our own vineyards here in the Napa Valley. A wonderful, versatile food wine because of its approachability and spicy flavors. Enjoy!

Heitz Cellars 2000 Grignolino Port

The Grignolino grape variety is so flavorful that it is a perfect match to make Port. The 2000 Heitz Grignolino Port is a beautiful dark garnet with an aroma that is reminiscent of orange blossoms. Rich and lush in the mouth with just the right amount of sweetness that lingers on the palate. This is indeed a refined, elegant Port that is soft and approachable for today’s enjoyment.
