The beautiful region of Walla Walla in Washington State is quickly gaining a reputation for being one of the United States’ finest wine regions. It benefits from wonderfully varied terrain, featuring gently sloping river valleys and hot, wide plains, and attracts bold and innovative winemakers keen to make their mark on this unique and exciting part of the country. Long Shadows is something of a supergroup, a winery managed by some of the most vibrant and creative winemakers in America. Randy Dunn, who is renowned for the quality, finesse and age-worthiness of his Napa Cabernet Sauvignon wines is joined by Michel Rolland, a winemaker who seems to pick up top scores all over the world for his characterful wines. Also on the team is Philippe Melka, a cult winemaker who commands some of the highest prices out there, and Armin Diel, a German wine critic and craftsman, whose Riesling wines helped bring the grape varietal to a new generation of fans. With a lineup like this, Long Shadows has caused great excitement in the wine world, and has helped put Walla Walla on the map.

The four winemakers come from each corner of the globe - Australia, France, Germany and Chile, and each have their own approach and own culture to bring to the table. However, they are all united by their passion for the beautiful terroir they found in Walla Walla, and their intention is to find ways to express this terroir in the bottle, and bring it to wine lovers worldwide. Despite their different backgrounds and preferences, they all want to make wines which taste like they are from Washington. The wines produced by Long Shadows reflect the specialisms of each expert, however. Cabernet Sauvignon features heavily, as does Riesling. They also produce characterful Merlot wines and those made with Petit Verdot and Syrah, making this a fascinating winery to explore.
