However, the region also produces plenty of fascinating still red and white wines, and the number of different grape varietals planted within the region is consistently increasing. Carneros differs from other Californian regions due to the fact that it receives a considerably cooler climate, and benefits from the effects of Pacific fog on the vineyards. This allows fine imported grape varietals to ripen more slowly, and retain more of their acids, resulting in superb wines of distinction.
