St. Clement Vineyard & Winery

California Wine, Napa Valley

About St. Clement Vineyard and Winery

The ambition of St. Clement Winery has always been to produce small quantities of noble wines in the tradition of the classic European wine estate; wines which consistently reflect the unique and enduring characteristics of soil and climate.

St. Clement Winery Sauvignon Blanc

This Sauvignon Blanc nearly glows in the glass with a golden straw color, reminiscent of Monet’s “Haystacks.” Its exotic nose suggests the Tahitian period of another painter: Gauguin. The tropical notes of mango and grapefruit are enhanced with a hint of cedar. The wine possesses an incredible minerality in the mouth, married with flavors of tangerine zest, acacia flower and even strawberry.

St. Clement Winery Chardonnay

The Napa Valley Chardonnay is a joy to behold, as it explodes rays of blindly beautiful luxurious golden color that leaps from the glass. The nose leads you to an orchard of trees richly laden with ripe fruit that is enhanced by enticing notes of vanilla, nutmeg and clove. The first sip unleashes a bazaar of wonderful flavors -- baked apple, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg spices. The finesse of ripe fruit is well balanced by crisp acidity and light mineral notes that lead into a toasty vanilla finish, reminiscent of freshly baked sugar cookies.

St. Clement Winery Merlot

On the nose, this wine leads with aromas of pomegranate, black cherry, leather and a back note of floral perfume. A rich and lush entry leads into a fat attack of black cherry followed by notes of coffee, chocolate and meat -- it gives me aromas of roast beef. I think this is a complex wine with well-integrated oak notes. I love the lengthy finish that leaves flavors of cherry and plum lingering in my mouth with hints of sweet oak rounding out the balance. This would be a wonderful wine to be paired with grilled leg of lamb or any other hearty meat dish.

St. Clement Winery Petite Sirah

The first thing you will always notice about this Petite Sirah is its intense inky color. This vintage has that in spades. On the nose, if shows deep aromas of coffee, fig, cherry, layered with hints of iris and nuts. This wine shows a nice attack – it’s intense but soft. The flavor is just the slightest bit tart with an overwhelming flavor of fresh blueberry, right off the bush, in the midpalate. This leads to a wonderful red currant in the mouth. The tannin structure and acidity are quite nice, and will complement food wonderfully. I suggest duck confit to marry well with the lively acids that this wine shows. The tannins are not drying but are intense.

St. Clement Winery Cabernet Sauvignon

Delicate notes of plum, black currant, tobacco and leather lead the nose of this wine into aromas of cassis and leather surrounded by hints of wet stone. An elegant and medium-bodied entry begins to tempt the palate with flavors of cola, cocoa and caramel. Fine grained tannins surround notes of black truffle and blueberries that continue throughout a long roasty finish.

St. Clement Winery Oroppas

In the nose, this wine starts with aromas of raspberry, blackberry and cassis and ends with a back note of spice and vanilla. The mouth is filled with bright, fresh and rich fruit flavors of cassis and cherry layered with cedar, star anise, nutmeg and hints of smoky bacon that last throughout a long finish. I think this wine is well integrated and shows complexity even at this youthful stage. I found the Cabernet Sauvignons that I worked with to blend this wine had tremendous character which lead me to use a greater percentage in this vintage.

St. Clement Winery Rosenbaum Blush

This wine has delicate, peachy/strawberry/raspberry fruit characteristics in the mouth and a lively, refreshing finish. The slightly sweeter character makes this a great accompaniment with spicy Chinese food or summer fruits and cheese. The 2001 Rosenbaum Blush is an excellent food wine and complements any occasion. Serve it chilled and enjoy with your friends.

St. Clement Winery La Vache! Dry Rose

A blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, this wine displays a beautiful orange- pink rimmed hue in the glass. Evocative notes of hibiscus, strawberry, clove and blueberry leap from the nose on this dry rosé. A viscous entry begins with dried plums, cherries and rhubarb that surround sweet hints of cinnamon and brown spices. Good structured and well balanced, this wine finishes surprisingly crisp and refreshing – perfect for any garden party or al fresco dining.
