The wines of Viña Cobos are the result of a shared dream inspired by the passion of an American winemaker and two partners from a wine-producing culture deeply rooted in European traditions. Nestled at the foot of the Andes Mountain in the unique microclimate of Perdriel, the Marchiori Vineyard provides an outstanding environment for malbec as well as other varietals.
The inaugural 1999 vintage of Cobos Malbec received the highest score upon release for any Argentine wine. Since then, Paul and partners have grown their family of wines, which continue to receive even greater accolades. Cobos, Bramare and Felino offer three tiers of exceptional chardonnay, merlot, malbec and cabernet sauvignon sourced from Marchiori Vineyard and other select properties within Mendoza.
Bramare is an Italian word meaning "to yearn for" and represents Viña Cobos’s middle tier of wines. Under the Bramare label, Viña Cobos showcases the Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay varietals. From slightly younger yet well-established blocks of the Marchiori Vineyard, the Bramare wines exhibit structure, concentration and complexity.
The Felinos exhibit a great balance of pure, concentrated fruit, lively acidity and smooth tannins. Our Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Chardonnay are vibrant, mouth-filling wines that pair exceptionally well with food.
Vina Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard 2006
Rated 99 - According to Hobbs, 2006 was one of the great vintages of his 20 year career in Argentina. The near perfect 2006 Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard is my favorite of this remarkable collection. A glass-coating, saturated opaque purple/black in color, the wine offers up a sexy/kinky bouquet of pain grille, Asian spices, pencil lead, mineral, lavender, blueberry, and black cherry. On the palate there is layer upon layer of savory fruit, spice notes, espresso, and chocolate as well as exquisite balance. The wine’s finish lasts for more than a minute. Try a bottle, bury the rest in your cellar for ten years, and then drink them from 2018 to 2040. - Robert Parker
Vina Cobos Bramare Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Deep black garnet in color, this Cabernet Sauvignon meets the nose with aromas of blackcurrant and hints of cedar, dried herbs, Serrano ham and tobacco. The assertive entry displays blackberries and plums with undertones of cola and black tea. Firmly structured and velvety through the mid-palate, it finishes with gripping tannins that suggest a wine of great ageability.
Vina Cobos El Felino Chardonnay 2007
Rated 91 - Paul Hobbs has the touch with Chardonnay. The 2007 Felino Chardonnay from a vintage that Hobbs calls dicey because of rain, was 70% fermented in stainless steel and 30% in barrel. It is medium gold-colored with a bouquet of toasty apple, poached pear, and tropical fruit aromas. Smooth and seamless on the palate, it has surprising depth, ripe flavors, and a pure finish. Drink this awesome bargain over the next two years. - Robert Parker
