Professional Wine Reviews for Yalumba Muscat Museum Show Reserve NV

Rated 94 by Wine Spectator
This Australian 'sticky' rivals the quality of many more-prestigious versions, at a fraction of the price. It's a gorgeous mouthful of spice and walnut, sweet and opulent, and is deep with clove, coffee, dried litchi and berry flavors that linger with hints of tangerine peel on the finish. Yummy. Additional Information on Yalumba Muscat Museum Show Reserve NV

Winery: Yalumba

Varietal: Muscat

As one of the oldest grape varietals in the world, the Muscat grape has a huge amount of variation in its character, flavors and even color As such, it is a wildly popular grape in several different countries, and its hardiness and reliability, coupled with its excellent characteristics makes it a highly popular grape varietal with wineries looking to produce fine and elegant wines with a wide appeal. One of the key attributes of Muscat varietal grapes is the fact that they have proven themselves to be highly versatile. Indeed, Muscat grapes are used for a vast range of different wines, from superbly aromatic sweet wines typical of eastern Europe, to refined and elegant sparkling wines, dry white wines, and even fortified examples. They are recognized by their bright and sharp fruity taste, and their characteristically floral aroma.

Region: Victoria

Victoria is a fascinating region for lovers of Australian wines, and consistently provides plenty of exciting and pleasant surprises for wine drinkers around the world. The six hundred or so wineries which operate in this cool and coastal south western region of Australia have always had a dedication for quality over quantity, and a reputation for openness to experimentation unmatched elsewhere in the country. As such, the range of red and white grape varietals which grow exceedingly well there result in a wide variety of wines, of many different styles. Amongst the finest are the Old World style wines made from classic French grapes such as Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as many fascinating fortified wines and dessert wines.

Country: Australia

Despite much of Australia being covered by dry, arid deserts and bushland, the southern regions of the country and islands such as Tasmania have proved to be ideal for vineyard cultivation and wine production. The fertile soils and brisk oceanic breezes, coupled with the blazing Australian sunshine allow the grapes to grow to full ripeness before a late harvest, resulting in hugely flavorful wines which appeal to a wide international audience. Combine this with the experimental and daring approach Australian wineries have in regards to wine production, and it becomes clear why Australia has relatively quickly become something of a world leader when it come to exporting their produce to Europe and America. The Shiraz and Chardonnay grape varietals have produced the most successful and broadly appreciated results over the decades, however, in more recent years wineries have begun experimenting with a much wider range of grape varietals, demonstrating how Australian wineries are continuing to adapt and develop alongside international palates.
