The branding of 19 Crimes is a fascinating one in itself. Taking its name from the list of nineteen different crimes which were punishable by deportation from England to Australia (thus leading to the establishment of Australia as a colony) in the 18th century, the bottles are festooned with vintage portraits of criminals who made the long journey by sea to the newest of the New Worlds. However, this isn’t about style over substance. 19 Crimes are wines with something to say, and some of the best vintners Australia has to offer have put their unique fingerprints over the winemaking process that led to these beautiful and complex bottles. The principal vintner responsible for 19 Crimes is Tony Robinson, one of the most respected winemakers in Australia, and since 2012, he has been producing the outlandish and powerful blends which 19 Crimes is famed for. Bringing together the best of Australia’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz varietal grapes, these are strong and full bodied red wines which are not quickly forgotten.
