Professional Wine Reviews for Albino Rocca Barbaresco 2015

Rated 91 by Wine Spectator
Austere and tannic, this is monolithic and unyielding, with elements of ripe fruit, and sweet spice and tar notes. Hard to see where this is going now, but shows character. Reveals pure cherry flavors after a few hours of aeration, so decant or cellar. Best from 2022 through 2036. 580 cases made.
Winery
Ruby red garnet, on the nose it shows pleasant notes of ripe red fruit, mulberry and licorice, with a spicy finish. Elegant, delicate, fruity, full-bodied and intense, in the mouth it is particularly long in the finish

Winery Albino Rocca

Region: Piedmont

n Italy, the region most closely associated with excellent quality red wines and characterful sparkling wines is Piedmont. This alpine region is located in the north-west of the country, and features beautiful foothills of the impressive mountain range which forms the nearby border between Italy, France and Switzerland. Wineries in Piedmont work with the Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera grapes which thrive in the warm, dry summers and cooler autumns, as well as the beautifully expressive Moscato grapes which are used for the sparkling Asti wines the region is famed for. For generations, these wineries have perfected the art of aging their red wines, and blending grape varietals to get the most out of each one, leading to a region known all over the world for the exceptional quality of its produce.

Country: Italy

Italy is recognised as being one of the finest wine producing countries in the world, and it isn't difficult to see why. With a vast amount of land across the country used primarily for vineyard cultivation and wine production, each region of Italy manages to produce a wide range of excellent quality wines, each representative of the region it is produced in. Any lover of Italian wines will be able to tell you of the variety the country produces, from the deliciously astringent and alpine-fresh wines of the northern borders, to the deliciously jammy and fruit-forward wines of the south and the Italian islands. Regions such as Barolo are frequently compared with Bordeaux and Burgundy in France, as their oak aged red wines have all the complexity and earthy, spicy excellence of some of the finest wines in the world, and the sparkling wines of Asti and elsewhere in Italy can easily challenge and often exceed the high standards put forward by Champagne. Thanks to excellent terrain and climatic conditions, Italy has long since proven itself a major player in the world of wines, and long may this dedication to quality and excellence continue.
