Professional Wine Reviews for Alpha Estate Malagouzia Turtles Vineyard 2019

Rated 90 by Wine Advocate
The 2019 Malagouzia Turtles Vineyard is unoaked, dry and comes in at 13.21% alcohol. A nice bargain, this screwcapped Malagousia is aromatic and expressive this year. It's fun just to smell, but it tastes great as well. It has good concentration for the grape and the style but even better freshness. There's just a bit of bite on the finish. This is a grape I have often thought works best when very young. That is true here, too, but it will certainly develop over the next few months. Under screwcap, it should hold well for several years, maybe more than indicated. There's no reason to wait, though. It's worth leaning up on the score today, but don't expect this to be as interesting when you lose the freshness.

Winery Alpha Estate

Country: Greece

Thanks to thousands of years of viticulture, and a dedication to quality and experimentation, Greek wines remain in a league of their own and continue to surprise and delight wine lovers around the world. From the refined and delicious Agiorghitiko wines, with their deep ruby red color and intense fruit flavors, to the unusual and highly aromatic fortified wines made with the black Mavrodaphne grapes, Greek wine is renowned for its variety and consistent excellence. It seems the blazing Mediterranean sunshine allows wineries to make the most of the late harvests and all the intensity of flavor this brings, resulting in wines which are bursting with fruit-forward character and unusual aromas.
