About Chase Vineyard and Winery

Although our family has been a Napa Valley grape-growing family for over 100 years, it wasn't until 1997 that we decided to expand into wine making. Celebrating our family heritage, we chose the name Chase Winery.

Widowed in 1874, Sarah Esther Chase Bourn ventured from San Francisco to St. Helena to re-establish her family. A true Napa Valley pioneer, Sarah purchased about 320 acres between St. Helena and Rutherford in the heart of the Napa Valley. Determined to be self-sustaining, she raised cattle and sheep, planted vegetables, wheat, along with fruit, nut and olive trees and maintained a silkworm farm. Sarah's daughter, Maude, and her husband, William Alston Hayne, planted the Zinfandel vines just after the turn of the century. Ever since, the vineyard has been handed down from generation to generation and tenderly maintained by descendants of the Chase-Bourn-Hayne-Simpson family.

......Sixty acres of old vine Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards remain in the family.

Chase Winery Hayne Vineyard Zinfandel

BLUEBERRIES! That’s the word on the 2001 Hayne Vineyard Zinfandel, and lots of them. The 2001's look to be big wines and this one is no exception. Large and bold, the flavors are tremendously powerful and juicy exhibiting layers of decadent ripe blueberries, raspberries, coffee, and chocolate. Spices include cinnamon and slight, sweet hint of toasty oak. The finish goes on and on yet is refined and silky. Because it’s BIG, we recommend a little cellar time and then decant for the best enophilic experience. Again with the 2001, we made a few Magnums for those of you who like the big bottle presentation.

Chase Winery Hayne Vineyard Zinfandel Port

Some of you have had the pleasure of barrel tasting this jammy, robust port here at the winery and we are happy to have it now ready for home consumption. As visitors know, Andy decided to do the port as a whim. He and Bill Ballentine, our notable winemaker, played with it and then fortified it with the Valley’s best: Domaine Charbay Brandy. We call it our cigar Port. It begins with earthy scents of cedar and tobacco then unfolds to show walnut, plum and baked cherry flavors. Big and chewy, silky tannins with a smoky edge running through and a super long finish with nutty overtones. Nothing better on a cold winter’s night!
