The Clos Mosny is an entirely walled, gently sloping, south-facing clos in the southern part of the Montlouis appellation in the commune of Saint-Martin-le-Beau. When Jacky Blot bought the clos from Monmousseau in 2012, the vineyard and the wall was in a poor state. Both have subsequently been restored. Grapes for the Clos Mosny come from the best parts of the clos with the rest going either into Rémus or for the domaine's sparkling wines. The light gold 2019 has mineral, stony aromas with a touch of oak, richly textured with mouthfilling fruit and lovely balancing racy acidity. It has the potential to age brilliantly. green grapes

Varietal: Chenin Blanc

The green skinned grapes of the Chenin Blanc varietal are used for a wide range of different wines. In their native home of France, they are used for the production of some excellent sparkling crémants, or allowed to develop noble rot, which intensifies their natural sweetness and produces some unusual and intense flavors In most countries around the world, though, Chenin Blanc grapes are used for the production of high quality still white wines, which have the ability to express the finer features of the terroir they are grown on. Many winemakers like to age their Chenin Blanc wines in oak or chestnut barrels, which adds an extra layer of complexity to the wines. These grapes thrive best in heavy clay soils, and ripen late in the season, when their natural flavors can come through fully.

Region: Loire Valley

In France, the region most closely associated with the production of fine white wines is the Loire Valley, a particularly fertile and temperate region near the Atlantic coast. This reputation is certainly justified, and the Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc vines which flourish in this region produce both dry and dessert wines of exquisite character and flavor However, the region is also responsible for some seriously high quality Cabernet Franc based wines, such as those found in the sub-region of Chenin, and plenty of elegant bubbly crémant wines, which are often fruitier and more lively than those found in Champagne, and with a character all of their own. The Loire Valley is an ancient wine region, with archaeological evidence dating wine production in this area back to the first century.

With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
