Situated halfway between the city of Dijon, and the wine region of Beaune, we find the village of Vosne-Romanee, one of the best known French appellations, famed for the production of fine Burgundy wines. The grand cru vineyards of Vosne-Romanee benefit from east facing slopes, and mineral-rich soils composed of clay and marl, which produce vines of great character that bear fruits which are perfect for ageing. It is here we come across the winery Domaine Francois Lamarche, an estate which is based on land that has been producing beautiful Burgundy wines since the mid 18th century.

The winery as it is today was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century, when Henri Lamarche - a cooper by trade - bought the estate and began making wines which were the very essence of the region he adored. It was a single estate project from the very beginning, with grapes being harvested, fermented and bottled all in the same place. Fast forward to the present day, and the winery is overseen by Henriā€™s grandson, Francois, and the newest generation of the Lamarche family. Not much has changed when it comes to the original vision of the business; Francois and his daughter continue to make the same types of characterful, complex and elegant wines as his grandfather did a hundred years ago.

The wines of Domaine Francois Lamarche are made to classic Burgundy principles, with the intention being to produce a powerful expression of the terroir in the bottle. The low yielding vines do most of the work, slowly growing grapes to a full level of ripeness which carry plenty of the best features of the land in their juices and skins. Francois Lamarche believes in viticulture which involves minimal intervention, and traditional techniques such as handpicking the fruit to ensure the highest quality, and using aged barriques in which to mature the red and white wines his family produce.
