Domaine Ste. Michelle Winery

Washington Sparkling Wine, Columbia Valley

About Domaine Ste. Michelle Winery

In 1978, when Domaine Ste. Michelle released its first Sparkling Wine, a 1974 Blanc de Noirs, Washington state was an unknown region in the world of wine. Fast forward 25 years, and the region has now become world-renowned for producing highly acclaimed wines from premium European grape varieties. With lots of hard work and dedication, both in the cellar and in the vineyards, Domaine Ste. Michelle has helped lead that evolution.

The first breakthrough came in 1994, when Market Watch Magazine named Domaine Ste. Michelle to the nation’s "Hot Brands" list. Then in 1995 Domaine Ste. Michelle’s Extra Dry became the first and only U.S. Sparkling Wine ever to be awarded a gold medal at Challenge du Vin in Bordeaux, France. In a blind tasting, the French judges, experts on méthode champenoise wines and advocates of French Champagne, recognized the superb quality coming from Washington’s Columbia Valley. The rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years Domaine Ste. Michelle Sparkling Wines have received hundreds of medals in domestic and international wine competitions. In 2002, Domaine Ste. Michelle was named "Best Bubbly Under $20" by Wine Spectator, and all styles were also awarded a "Best Buy" designation.

Understanding that Sparkling Wine can be very intimidating to many consumers, in 2003 the winery launched a toll-free Sparkling Wine hotline (1-877-DSM-TIPS). The hotline offers consumers useful information, as well as fun tips on selecting and serving Sparkling Wine. From how to chill a bottle to how many bottles to buy for any size party, it makes celebrating with Domaine Ste. Michelle a breeze.

The latest news is the release of Domaine Ste. Michelle's first vintage dated Blanc de Blancs - the 1998 Luxe.
