Casale: just two steps outside the walls of San Gimignano, the property was acquired by Riccardo Falchini in 1964, descendant from a ancient Florentine family of viticulturist, that since 1626 produced wine for Cosimo de Medici. Situated 300 meters above sea level, it extends over a landscape of green rolling hills, many of which are of specialized vineyards.
The Casale building, which names the area, used to be a monk convent. In 1968 the first specialized vineyards were born. In 1976 the old wine cellar was converted in to a new cellar, the first in the area to be equipped with cold processing and temperature control of the fermentation of the wines. The wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano represents 50% of the entire production.
For over 25 years the products of Casale-Falchini are actively exported in the world, and have received important prizes and awards in international Wine Competitions, including 2 Grand Gold Medals at Vinitaly in 1996 with the Spumante Falchini Brut and the Campora IGT Super Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon.
This Spumante Millesimato is produced with an accurate selection of the best grapes of Chardonnay and Vernaccia from the vineyards at Casale and some Pinot Noir. After a first fermentation it ferments in the bottle where it further completes its refining for several months. The prolonged contact with the yeasts gives to this spumante particular characteristics. It is a Classic Spumante, produced in small quantities.
Following the Tuscan tradition for producing vinsanto this Vin Santo comes from the late harvest of selected Malvasia (50%) and Trebbiano (50%) grapes of the Podere Casale I°, picked and slowly dried. After pressing the resulting must then is put into oak, cherry and chestnut barrels, where it is left to age for over four years. Before being bottled a careful selection of the best barrels is done.
Produced from the Colombaia vineyard this Chianti from the Siena Hills is a blend of Sangiovese (85%) and a small percentage (15%) of Canaiolo and other red grapes. After brief aging in oak casks, this wine is further refined in the bottle for a few months, it then must pass the careful scrutiny of the Titolati Commission before being sold. This wine is harmonious, fruity and with a good structure.
Produced with Sangiovese grapes, harvested on the hills surrounding San Gimignano, this Tuscan red wine, after a brief passage in oak barrels, further refines in the bottle for 3 to 4 months before leaving the cellar. This wine is recognized for its intense ruby red color and its pleasantly distinctive aroma of wild blackberries. After being decanted, it can complement perfectly Tuscan antipasti, pasta dishes, roasted and grilled meats, even pizza and focaccia.
This world renowned wine comes from the vineyard Camporaiolo at Casale in San Gimignano. It is almost entirely produced from carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. After the fermentation it passes into 225 l. French oak barriques and is aged for about 24 months; this is where the wine gains the structure and the elegance it is noted for. The wine then rests in the bottle for at least 12 more months before being introduced to the public. The Campora is a wine with great harmony and a remarkable structure and complexity.
