The Colombini family has had properties in Montalcino since 1352 and has owned the Fattoria dei Barbi since 1790. The vineyards cover an area of 100 hectares, approximately 35% of the whole estate. The exposure is east, south-east and the soil type is composed prevalently of "galestro" (stony) with small components of mud and clay, only a minor part of it has a relevant presence of eocenic sands. The wine cellar has capacity of 5.000 hl in oak barrel, 12.000 hl in stainless steel or, concrete vats, 200 hlinkegs, 240 hl in barriques. The annual production is over 700.000 bottles. Stefano Cinelli Colombini is directly involved with the whole management, from the production to the marketing of the various products, combining the family traditions with the more dynamic style or modern wine-making.
This red wine has been produced since 1892 and was awarded many times for its quality. It is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes from our best vineyards in Montalcino. The wine is aged for three years in oak barrels and then it has a further period of 12 months in the bottle, before being sold. The result is a very pleasant wine, round and supple, well structured, with a complexity that will age for many years.
Giovanni Colombini started the production of Brusco in the Seventies, after years of researches and experiments. Its system of vinification, which has been patented, gives a strong bodied wine with fruity and spicy aromas. It is a wine to share with friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
This Riserva of Brunello is made only in the best vintages from our oldest vineyards in Montalcino. The ageing in barrel and in bottle is longer then the one for the normal Brunello, thus the wine has a deeper concentration and a wider complexity of aromas. It is definetely a wine to be contemplated.
The "Vigna del Fiore" is a vineyard unique in its kind. It is south exposed, at an altitude of 360 meters, with a very stony soil and only a small percentage of clay. All of that contributes to create a very special wine: rich, with an ample range of fruity aromas, and very elegant. Despite its classical style it is a versatile wine to be enjoyed on many different occasions.
This is a wine deeply rooted in our past. The system of vinification (which has been the same for centuries) starts after an accurate selection of the grapes in the vineyards. The maturation is very slow in small barrels, but it is worth the wait. It is a very rich wine, with complex aromas and an excellent balance of sweetness and strenght. Ideal companion for the Tuscan patisserie, or to be sipped slowly after meals.
This red wine comes from the southern part of Tuscany and it is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes, like the Brunello di Montalcino and all the other great wines of Tuscany. It is a full-bodied wine, with a good tannic structure balanced by a lively freshness. The making of Morellino goes back for centuries but its approach is very modern and pleasurable. Has a brilliant and intense ruby red, an ample and persistent bouquet with plum and red berry tones. The taste is full and pleasant with velvety tannis and a long finish.
The area of Montalcino il also included in the denomination of "Chianti delle Colline Senesi" and the Colombini family has produced Chianti since last century. The grapes come from local vineyards and they are: 90% Sangiovese, 7% Canaiolo, 3% other red grapes.
Dark ruby red colour. Intense bouquet, with hues of cherry, bilberry and violet. The taste is dry with supple and well-balanced tannins. Well structured and elegant wine, with a strong personality and a long finish.
As the production of Brunello di Montalcino is strictly limited, some of our vineyards of Sangiovese are not within the D.O.C.G. (Italian version of the Appelation di Origine Controleé) of Brunello. These vineyards are our experimental field for different dones of the same variety and from them we produce the Rosso dei Barbi, an agreéable red table wine, which in its simplicity retains the same style of all our wines. This wine has a brilliant ruby red colour, a vinous and fruity bouquet. The taste is fresh and lively with tones of early Autunm fruits.
This wine has the same characteristics of Brunello but with an easier approach. The grapes of Sangiovese come from the younger vineyards which produce aromatic and elegant wines with a medium body. It is the ideal every day companion for family meals.
