For the creation of NOTIOS RED two perfectly complementary varieties of the Southern Mediterranean were combined, varieties that have been cultivated for years in the Gaia vineyards, in Koutsi, Nemea. In this blend, Agiorgitiko gives its intense fruity aroma and its soft tannins, while Syrah, which is perfectly adjusted to the climate of the region provides its rich and spicy character along with its sense of structure and depth. Its deep reddish-violet color, its complex aroma and taste intensity makes it a perfect accompaniment of a wide range of spicy and intense dishes. This young wine is best enjoyed at low temperature of 10°- 14°C, even during the hot months of summer.

Varietal: Agiorgitiko

The Agiorgitiko grape varietal has been grown in the Nemea region of the Peloponnese mountains for thousands of years, and is now one of the flagship grape varietals of the Greek wine industry. It is most commonly associated with strongly fruit-forward red wines, full of spicy notes and plummy, dark fruit flavors However, its low acidity often means it is blended with grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, to produce wines more suited to modern palates. One of the main features which makes Agiorgitiko grapes so popular with wine makers is the fact it grows in very arid and infertile land, and responds very well indeed to winery techniques and viticultural methods. As such, there are a wide range of wines made from the Agiorgitiko grape, including soft and rounded bottles, and also dry and tannic wines which are enjoyed in many countries around the world.

Few countries in the world can claim such an illustrious history of viticulture as that found in Greece, just as few countries can benefit from such an impressive range of terrain as that found across the mainland and islands of this ancient and fascinating land. When we consider that grapes are grown everywhere from the tiny islands in the Aegean sea, to larger land masses such as Rhodes and Crete, on the arid and rocky mainland and mountainous regions of Greek Macedonia, it is no wonder Greek wines show such huge diversity in style, flavor, aroma and character. One thing remains consistent, however, and that is the dedication to producing distinctly 'Greek' wines, full of characteristics which reflect the slow evolution of viticulture in a country which has been producing wine for several thousand years. Whilst certain wines, such as Retsina and those made from the Agiorghitiko grapes have long since been popular with fine wine drinkers world-wide, Greek wineries are continuing to produce superb wines using a wide range of native and imported grape varietals, meaning there are always plenty of new flavors and aromas to discover.
