Kendall-Jackson Winery

California Wine, Sonoma County

About Kendall-Jackson Vineyards Winery

Founder Jess Jackson spent nearly a decade developing his own style for wine before opening Kendall-Jackson winery in 1982. His passion and vision have grown Kendall-Jackson into one of the premier family-owned wineries in California.

From the beginning, Jess abandoned the conventional wisdom of the day, which emphasized making wines from a single vineyard, and sourced premium grapes from vineyards located throughout California's cool coastal regions. He firmly believed that a wine that emphasized the superior qualities found in each coastal location would be more flavorful and complex than single vineyard designates. The result was an exceptional Chardonnay that had a unique blend of wine grown in Santa Barbara, Monterey, Sonoma and Lake Counties . . . and Vintner’s Reserve was born.

From the first Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay to today, the wine has remained consistent in method, style, and quality - a rich, round, flavorful wine made with handcrafted methods, including small oak barrel fermentation, malolactic fermentation and aging on the yeast lees, or ‘sur lie.’ The first vintage was introduced in 1983, and won the American Wine Competition's first-ever Platinum Medal. Soon the Vintner's Reserve line grew to include more award-winning wines, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Riesling, and Zinfandel.

That same year, Kendall Jackson Vineyards introduced the Grand Reserve portfolio, a collection of ultra-premium wines crafted to represent the full potential of California's finest coastal vineyards and winemaking artistry. These special wines include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

Today, Kendall Jackson Winery is California’s most awarded winery, and our wines are enjoyed around the world. But perhaps most importantly, Kendall-Jackson remains family-owned, with its roots firmly planted in the family vineyards.
