Small Batch #7 (STR) is a single malt whisky produced by Kilchoman Distillery in Islay, Scotland. This seventh release from Kilchoman’s Small Batch series was copper pot distilled from malted barley peated to 50ppm and aged in a combination of 70% ex-bourbon, 5% oloroso sherry, and 25% shaved, toasted, re-charred (STR) red wine casks. The STR finish, a technique pioneered by the late Dr. James Swan, lends a well-integrated influence of red fruit and baking spice. The nose delivers leather, dried cherry, and charred cedar, priming the palate for an explosion of blackberry jam, grilled strawberry, and spearmint anchored by mesquite and cherry wood with a finish evocative of mulled wine over a campfire. Bottled without additives or coloring. Non-chill filtered.
