The 2006 Tokaji Aszú Lapis 6 Puttonyos is a pure Furmint bottled with 10% alcohol and 239 grams of residual sugar (total acidity: 11.4 grams per liter, pH: 3.17). Deep, ripe, rich and concentrated on the nose, it displays aromas of bright green and orange tea, porcini, raisin and dried apricot and some minty notes intermixed with honey scents. This is a highly delicate, dense, juicy, beautifully concentrated, piquant and persistent Tokaji with enormous finesse and length. There is so much tension, vitality and concentration here, and it's combined with lush and charmingly generous fruit as well as lots of salt and great finesse that makes this noble sweet wine light-footed and soaring. This is an exceptional sweet wine that can compete with the very best on planet wine. And it's not yet finished. The 2016 is still on the rise and will improve further. It's the kind of sweet wine that you can't stop drinking without punishing yourself.

Winery Kiralyudvar

Country: Hungary

Hungary's wine industry suffered a real drop in reputation throughout most of the twentieth century due to the homogenization of wines under the Soviet Union. However, today the historic wineries of Tokaj and the regions around the great Balaton lake are working tirelessly to bring Hungary's wines to the world once again, and demonstrate just how wonderful and varied the country's produce is. By far the most highly esteemed of all Hungary's wines are the famous Tokaji wines – once the favorite of the crowned heads of Europe, now a favorite with anyone looking for something unique, flavorful and surprising. Tokaji wines are made using noble rot, which withers the grapes and concentrates the sugars of the fruit. The resulting wine is slightly viscous, and packed full of fascinating flavors.
