The 2016 Vacqueyras Le Clos offers more fruit as well as purity and is one of the finest wines I’ve tasted from the estate. Awesome notes of black raspberries, violets, cedary spice, and hints of barrique flow to a medium to full-bodied, silky, seamless effort that has a polished, long, elegant style. Based on equal parts Grenache and Syrah brought up in tank (this estate doesn’t own any barrels), it’s going to have 10-15 years of prime drinking. Bravo! ... More details

A 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2016 Vacqueyras le Clos is even better than the excellent Garrigues. Herbal, peppery notes accent mixed berries and black olives in this full-bodied, creamy-textured beauty. Complex and complete, it finishes with supple tannins and tremendous length.

Quite ripe, with mouthfilling boysenberry and blackberry confiture notes that show good energy throughout, carried by anise, bramble and apple wood accents through the finish. This will have lots of fans for sure. Best from 2019 through 2024. 1,416 cases made, 150 cases imported.

A deep, intense and herbal expression on the nose, with a faint background whiff of bonfires. Intense concentration and very fresh, it has a polished, seamless effect across the palate with very fine, silky tannins and a long finish.

(all destemmed fruit and all concrete) Lurid ruby. Heady, smoke-accented blueberry, cherry, tobacco and violet scents show excellent clarity and a hint of energizing minerality. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering concentrated but lively black and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors, along with an exotic suggestion of apricot. The long, chewy finish shows bright minerally cut, a touch of gaminess and dusty tannins that sneak in late.

Region: Rhone Valley

In southern France, one of the primary wine regions responsible for the production of a fine and varied range of wines is the Rhone Valley. Split into two large sub-regions, this expansive valley benefits from micro-climates which allow the wineries to grow a vast array of fine grape varietals. The northern region is the more limited one in regards to the amount of varietals grown, focusing predominantly on raising excellent quality Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier vines for their distinctive and elegant range of wines. The southern region, on the other hand, has a beautifully Mediterranean climate, and is home to dozens of grape varietals which are used to produce white, red and rosé wines, alongside some of the most famous and widely loved blended wines in the world.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
