Paul Hobbs Vineyard & Winery

California Wine, Sonoma's Russian River Valley/Napa Valley

About Paul Hobbs Vineyard Wine

Paul Hobbs has been a producer of first class California wines since 1991. Currently, the production comes from contract wineries, they hope to have their own built in the next two years. Paul Hobbs wines are currently made at a new “shared” winery called “Laird Family Estate” located between the towns of Napa and Yountville in the Napa Valley. Lindsay Vineyard, their 19 acre owned vineyard, located in the Russian River Valley, is a 19 acre parcel in which they have planted 14 acres to Pinot Noir. Several contract vineyards: Hyde, Michael Black, Beckstoffer, Richard Dinner, Kunde, and walker station provide the fruit. In December 2000, “Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine” named Paul Hobbs “Winemaker of the Year”. The award recognized the excellent results of the Paul Hobbs Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines released in 2000. As the new millennium unfolds, Paul Hobbs will remain in the forefront of talented winemakers producing delicious wines from the most desired vineyards around the world.

The Saratoga Wine Exchange offers selections of Paul Hobbs Wine from Paul Hobbs Winery.

Paul Hobbs 2000 Hyde Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

The Paul Hobbs 2000 Hyde Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is bright, red-blue color. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, cassis, and dark semi-sweet chocolate are enhanced by notes of sandalwood and black olive. The lively, ripe fruit flavors are interwoven with licorice and black pepper. This wine is rich, full-bodied, and delicious, with smooth, polished tannins and a lingering finish. Alcohol 13.7%

Paul Hobbs 2002 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

The Paul Hobbs 2002 Russina River Valley Pinot Noir is bright ruby red color. The nose reveals black cherry, plum, and fig aromas. On the palate the wine displays cherry, cola, and red licorice flavors, with a sweet oak component adding depth and complexity. This is a supple, balanced wine with a lively cherry character that lingers on the finish. Alcohol 14.8%

Paul Hobbs 2000 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Classic Cabernet Sauvignon growing conditions in Napa Valley of warm days and cool nights resulted in a crop with excellent color, resulting in a 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon with fully developed flavors and great acidity. Diligent work in the vineyard to limit a large crop set helped optimize richness in the grapes. Cool weather during harvest provided enhanced flavor development.

Paul Hobbs 1999 Beckstoffer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

A summer of consistent, moderate weather in Oakville created ideal conditions to develop intense flavors and complexity in the grapes. The warm Indian summer fully ripened the fruit to produce some of the best wines of the decade. The resulting Beckstoffer vineyard cabernet sauvignon is brilliant, deep red/black color. This is a rich and concentrated wine brimming with the flavors of blackberry, currant, red plum, anise, and cedar. The wine displays a duality of power and elegance. The balance of intriguing fruits, spice, mocha oak and firm tannins makes this wine exceptional in its approachability and cellar worthiness. Alcohol 14.8%
