The reliable 2015 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes is the wine with a higher Cariñena content from the portfolio; it's 55% Garnacha, 45% Cariñena and perhaps 1% white grapes sourced from the nine villages of Priorat. The destemmed and crushed grapes fermented in oak and concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in barriques for ten months. I've always liked the elegant rusticity of Les Terrasses, which in the last few years has become more ethereal. This seems to be a lighter vintage, very pure, aromatic, even floral, intense and long. This seems to be a more elegant version of Terrasses, long and silky.

Beautiful nose of crushed raspberries and plums with floral and stony undertones. Slate,too. Full body, a great velvety tannin structure and wonderful harmony. Incredible purity. Long, fresh and flavorful finish. Drink now or hold.

Vivid magenta. A highly perfumed, mineral-accented bouquet evokes ripe cherry, red fruit liqueur and licorice, along with a suave floral overtone. Chewy and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated raspberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors that are honed by a smoky mineral quality. The impressively long, sweet finish is shaped by youthful, firm tannins. Zesty allspice and floral notes linger behind.

The 2015 Priorat Les Terrasses checks in as 60% Garnacha and 40% Cariñena that spent ten months in barrels. It has a beautiful, elegant, seamless style as well as lovely notes of black raspberries, spice box, dried earth, and obvious minerality. Silky, medium-bodied, and already drinking great, it should keep for 7-8 years.

With sixty thousand hectares of prime land under vine, and over two hundred bodegas and wineries operating there, the Spanish region of Catalunya is a vitally important centre for Spanish wine production and viticulture. It seems this has been the case for several thousand years, and recent archaeological findings have proven that Catalunya has a wine history which pre-dates Roman Spain by a considerable margin, making it one of the oldest wine regions in the world. Catalan wines today are dominated by the ever popular sparkling Cava wines, made in the methode champenois, and drank across the globe as a fine replacement for the more expensive Champagne wines. However, the excellent climatic conditions and terroir of Catalunya means that the bodegas of the region can also produce excellent still red and white wines, made from the wide range of grape varietals which thrive there.
