Indeed, this green skinned grape is renowned for not having so much unique flavor within the fruit, but is very sensitive to the features of the terroir it is grown in, as well as to aging As such, it isn't unusual to find bottles of single variety Chardonnay wine described as holding notes of white stone, mountain waters, or other such geological features alongside the more predictable fruit descriptions This makes Chardonnay grape varietal wines an exciting world to delve into – full of surprises, full of delights.
Region: Burgundy
The region of Burgundy has become synonymous with high quality red wines, but in actual fact the region consistently produces a wide variety of fine wines of many different styles, rigorously protected by French wine laws designed to keep reputations and quality at a very high level. The region benefits greatly from a warm and sunny summer climate, which, coupled with the excellent quality soils which typify the region, and centuries of experience and expertise, has led to the region being known all over the world for the excellence of its produce. The majority of grapevines grown here are of the Pinot Noir varietal, which has helped Burgundy become known as the definitive region for elegant and smooth red wines, but Chardonnay grapes and many others are also grown in abundance and used to make both still and sparkling wines.

Appellation: Cote De Beaune
France's beautiful and highly esteemed sub-region of Cote De Beaune is rightly regarded as the home to many of the world's finest, most complex and fascinating white wines. The white wine industry of Cote De Beaune is based almost solely around the Chardonnay grape, which flourishes especially well in the fine climatic conditions the region receives, and ripens well due to the mineral rich soils which typify the area. Chardonnay is renowned for its ability to express the best points of its terroir, and local winemakers claim that a mixture of traditional techniques and the stunning soils they work with is the secret to their success. There is also a huge red wine industry in Cote De Beaune, which, although not quite as famous as the white wines that leave the region, produces remarkable results from the excellent Pinot Noir grapes which grow there.
