Both wines from L'Evangile showed beautifully. The 2020 Blason De L'Evangile is a more forward wine, offering terrific plum and darker berry fruits as well as classic Pomerol gravelly earth, chocolate, and leafy tobacco aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, it's as seamless as they come, with terrific balance and supple tannins. It will drink brilliantly for 15 years. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc, brought up mostly in once-used barrels with 15% in tank.

In this ripe wine, softness masks some firmer tannins. This second wine has a juicy character that also gives spicy density. It is full and rich, concentrating the black fruits. Drink from 2026.

Delicate, floral nose. Smooth and succulent, really quite clean and crisp on the palate. There’s a bit of dryness that comes in quite quickly, then minerality and a salty tang coupled with crisp blueberries and black cherries follows. Deep and dark in profile, with liquorice and clove reminding you this is still quite young and relatively potent. Structured, fresh and concentrated, with a touch of heat on the finish. Mouthwatering, quality fruit, and polished in feel.

The 2020 Blason de L'Évangile is a plump, juicy wine that very much reflects the extroverted side of the year. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, cloves and espresso are all dialed up. A racy, extroverted Pomerol, the 2020 Blason is a total pleasure bomb. This is the first time the Blason was partly aged in tank, a decision taken to maintain as much freshness as possible.

Rated 91 - A blend of 87% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Blason de L'Evangile is deep garnet-purple in color. It skips out of the glass with exuberant notes of chocolate-covered cherries, baked plums, and boysenberries, leading to suggestions of Indian spices, licorice, and dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy with plenty of expressive black fruits and just enough acidity, finishing long. - The Wine Independent

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The Bordeaux method of blending quality grape varietals is something which has long been imitated and envied around the world. Whilst there are six Bordeaux grape varietals allowed for the production of red wine in this region of France – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménere – the most common and widely used combination involves a careful blend of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, usually with a small percentage of Petit Verdot to boost the overall flavor and balance things out. This process accentuates the finer points of all these varietals, and takes the astringency of one type whilst rounding it out and mellowing it with the light tannins and fleshiness of another. The results are rarely short of spectacular, and are perfect for oak aging, where the flavorful magic of Bordeaux wine making can really take place, and the complex aromas and characteristics can truly come forward.

Region: Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region of France is possibly the most famous and widely respected wine region in the world. Known primarily for its exceptional blended red wines, made most commonly with Cabernet Sauvigon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varietals, it also produces superb dry white wines (both blended and single variety), alongside the highly esteemed sweet wines of Sauternes. All of these wine types use a careful mix of traditional wine-making methods alongside modern techniques, as well as more experimental and unorthodox practices such as turning their grapes over to the noble rot which intensifies the flavors in the sweet wines. Bordeaux benefits greatly from its position amongst wide river basins, and the cooling Atlantic breezes which blow across the rolling vineyards which cover this region.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
