The lightly smoky sea-breeze aroma entices on the nose. The palate opens with bolder peat smoke underpinned by vanilla and coconut, finishing with a mouthwatering salt-and-pepper accent. Adding water pulls it all together, creating an effect like vanilla cookies sprinkled with coarse sea salt, plus a puff of peat smoke. Kaiyo whisky is matured in the finest Japanese Mizunara oak casks. These casks are handmade due to Mizunara oak’s delicate wood grain. They are among the rarest casks in the world and are considered the finest in which to mature whisky. After years of maturing our casks go on a final maturation at sea voyage for up to 3 months, leaving from Osaka Japan.

The two key national drinks of the country – sake rice wine, and plum wine – are equally delicious, unique and aromatic, and are becoming more and more popular in the west as our fascination with this far east country continues to grow. Plum wines are made in a similar way to grape based wines, but the result is quintessentially Japanese, as they are aromatic, sweet and flavorful, whilst being light and utterly drinkable.
