Rodney Strong Winery was founded in 1959, by Rodney Strong, one of the pioneers of the modern wine industry in California and Sonoma County. After changes in ownership and direction during the 1970's and 1980's, Rodney Strong Winery was acquired by Klein Family Vintners in 1989, a family-owned farming-based business, and returned to its vineyard roots.
Located just off U.S. 101 three miles south of downtown Healdsburg on Old Redwood Highway, Rodney Strong Winery is one of Sonoma County's most dramatic wineries and invites visitors to enjoy its hospitality center offering sampling of the medal-winning wines and balcony views of the winery's working centers, plus lush lawns for picnicking with vineyards in the background.
The wine opens generously on the palette with layers of blackberries, cassis and plums framed with accents of dark chocolate and sweet spices. The finish is long, rich and supple.
Forward aromas fill the glass with a mix of chocolate-mint and plum while pleasing spicy tones of wintergreen and mint mix with a light fruit compote note.
The Alexander's Crown is abundant in plumy aromas with an interplay of mocha and sweet, earthy tones. Flavors of blueberry and orange zest mingle with a sweet spice from a predominance of French oak barrel aging."
Red cherry candy, a bit of strawberry and chocolate flavors expand on the palate while a slight impression of hickory and mint combine to create a lingering and delicious finish.
Aromas of blackberries, black cherries, vanilla and cedar carry through into the flavor of this full-bodied wine. Additional layers of cassis and cocoa are enveloped by soft, mature tannins and a long, rich finish.
Aromas of raspberry, blackberry and strawberry carry through to the palate and are complemented with hints of vanilla bean, licorice and black pepper. Cinnamon and ginger snap spices mingle with molasses, brown sugar and toasty oak on the finish.
A perfumed bouquet of Royal Anne cherries, blueberry and cola is touched with a slight licorice note. The licorice also delicately mingles on the palate with flavors of raspberry, cassis and a hint of smoke.
A nutty and smoky flavor impression at first is matched with fresh, bright red fruits of cherry, strawberry with a slight note of raspberry on the palate.
The palate is round and opulent with honeydew melon and peach flavors. A delicate mix of oak and white pepper notes mingles with an ever so subtle hint of lime to finish lush and flavorful.
Of a pale golden hue, our Sonoma County Chardonnay has aromas of lemon custard, fresh pineapple and Comice pear. The bouquet is so fresh that it invites a taste and delivers the same crisp fruit quality on the palate.
