Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. Spicy and brooding, the somewhat more full-bodied 2021 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard remains pure and light on its feet, while pouring a saturated ruby, with woodsy aromas coaxing from the glass of pine sap, black raspberry liqueur, and violets. This continues to the palate, with grounding notes of fresh soil and ripe tannins, a savory and gripping profile, and a weightless mineral texture with a lingering presence of petrichor and wet asphalt. It’s an age-worthy and fantastic wine from winemaker Noah Dorrance. Drink 2024-2036.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard is redolent of dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, cloves and leather. Substantial and powerful in the glass, the 2021 packs a ton of fruit intensity, more than any other vintage I can recall. I would give this heady Pinot a year or two in the cellar. This is a serious wine by any measure.
