The 2017 La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc is a blend of 76.2% Semillon and 23.8% Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is very closed, eventually opening out to reveal notes of apple tart, fresh Bosc pears, and honey-drizzled white peaches with wafts of lime blossom and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound with fantastic energy and tension, delivering a long, mineral-laced finish.

White Bordeaux

France is widely known as being the home of many of the world's finest white wines, and within France, the name which rings out across the wine world and is always associated with excellence of quality and flavor is Bordeaux. The white wines of the magnificent Bordeaux region are typically blended, and rely on the winemaker's skill and expertise to achieve the fine balance between the primary grape varietals used. Most blended white Bordeaux wines are made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, although there are actually nine grapes officially allowed by French wine law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines. The other six are Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac, although the use of these other grapes has been in steady decline over the past century.

Graves

Graves, a venerable appellation in Bordeaux, France, is renowned for its historical significance and the production of distinguished red and white wines. What makes Graves unique is its diverse terroir, featuring gravelly soils that not only lend the region its name but also provide excellent drainage and heat reflection, contributing to the ripening of grapes. Red wines from Graves are predominantly blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a balanced expression of dark fruits, structure, and age-worthy potential. The appellation is also celebrated for its exceptional white wines, primarily crafted from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Rich and racy at the same time, with a broad range of Key lime, white peach, yellow apple, verbena and meringue notes all woven together seamlessly, backed by a citrus oil accent on the lengthy, straw- and brioche-tinged finish. The finish shows terrific cut and drive despite the obvious richness. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Best from 2023 through 2040.
