A rich, full and heady nose. On the palate there’s ripe blackcurrant, red cherries, raspberries and strawberries but also some mint, black pepper and truffle. Excellent precision and density with a seductive dark chocolate edge. Feels well handled with a sense of classicism. A powerful, muscular and confident wine, but with suppleness – this has density but also grace with a cooling finish comprising liquorice, mint and soft salinity. A great wine.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

This elegant, nicely structured, balanced beauty will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years.

The 2019 Gazin is composed of 88.5% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4.5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it sashays out with a gorgeous perfume of raspberry pie, rose oil, and vanilla pod, giving way to a core of crushed blackberries, cast-iron pan, and truffles. The full-bodied palate has a sturdy frame of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness supporting the dense, muscular fruit, finishing earthy.
