The NV Brut Rosé is a standout. Rich and creamy in the glass, the Aubry NV Rosé has a bit more depth than usual. That’s not a bad thing. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, white pepper and a dash of citrus lend energy. But what I love most about the Rosé in this release is its volume. Disgorged: May, 2021.

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

The latest release of Aubry's NV Brut Rose Premier Cru was only disgorged in July 2018, but it's already showing well, opening in the glass with scents of strawberries, red apples and potpourri. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with an impressively deep, layered core of nicely concentrated fruit, ripe but tangy acids, a youthfully frothy mousse and a long, intense finish. This is a powerful, serious rosé that will work well at table or as an aperitif, especially after another year or two on cork.

This shows extraordinary rose-like perfume in addition to plenty of bright red cherry and berry fruits. The palate's boldly stated, showcasing plenty of fleshy wild-berry and nectarine flavors. Full through the finish. Drink now. A blend of 60% chardonnay and 40% rosé de saignée from pinot noir.
