The 2018 Pommard Les Croix Noires 1er Cru, with 20% whole cluster and 45% new oak, has a nicely detailed, pressed-rose-petal-infused bouquet of morello cherry, crushed strawberry and red currant. This is very seductive but more understated than the Les Chanlins. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. The new oak needs more time to fully integrate here and just occludes the finish at the moment. Give this 3–4 years in bottle to cohere.
