The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

Ripe yet appealingly fresh aromas include those of violet, black raspberry coulis and discreet spice wisps. There is excellent vibrancy to the delicious, unusually dense and palate coating flavors that flash a touch of rusticity on the mildly warm but impressively and complex finale. This is not an especially elegant example of the commune but there is much to like plus the structure is such that it should reward up to a decade of keeping.

The 2020 Volnay Village unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, warm spices, peonies and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, lively and precise, with a vibrant core of fruit and chalky tannins that assert themselves on the finish, it will merit a bit of bottle age.

The 2020 Volnay Village offers blue fruit on the nose, pure and charming, the oak here nicely integrated. The palate is smooth on the entry, fine depth, slightly peppery on the finish that might dupe you into thinking there is some whole cluster when there is none. This Pommard-like Volnay should age with style.

Winery Notes

A wine of great elegance with a vivid and bright colour. When the wine is young, the aromas are reminiscent of violet and black currant. With age, the aromas take on notes of ripe or candied fruit, mushroom and mild spices. On the palate, a pleasant sensation of roundness and velvety texture. Long aftertaste, with touches of candied fruit and vanilla.
