There is terrific intensity in this white, with a seashore hint shading flavors of peach, hazelnut, oak spice and white flowers. Sleek and well-delineated, this harmonious version cruises to the long, detailed aftertaste. Best from 2025 through 2032. 240 cases made, 80 cases imported.

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one that has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is Chardonnay. This green-skinned grape is now grown all over the Old and New Worlds, from New Zealand to the Americas, from England to Chile, and is one of the first varietals people think of when considering white wine grapes. Perhaps this is because of its huge popularity, which reached a peak in the 1990s, thanks to new technologies combining with traditional methods to bring the very best features out of the Chardonnay grape and allow its unique qualities to shine through. Most fine Chardonnay wines use a process known as malolactic fermentation, wherein the malic acids in the grape juice are converted to lactic acids, allowing a creamier, buttery nature to come forward in the wine. No grape varietal is better suited to this process than Chardonnay, which manages to balance these silky, creamy notes with fresh white fruit flavors beautifully.

The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a vivacious and tensile nose of Granny Smiths intermixing with Anjou pear, with wet pavement scents loitering off-stage. The palate is well balanced with fine depth and a bit more swagger than the Les Enseignères, although maybe not quite the same degree of precision? Still, this has the substance to suggest that a couple of years in bottle will meliorate this Puligny. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London.

Brilliant straw yellow, ‘Les Folatières’ reveals a bouquet of white flowers, peach, and citrus peel, underscored by flinty minerality. Rich and expressive on the palate with flavors of juicy stone fruit and lemon curd with a subtle touch of almond. Complexity and bright acidity leads to a persistent, mineral-driven finish.
