An intensely earthy and sauvage dominated nose combines notes of both red and dark berries along with floral hints. There is a seductive, even velvety mouth feel to the very rich, round and delicious middle weight flavors that are underpinned by dusty tannins on the well-balanced and persistent finish that displays less austerity than usual. This mineral-driven effort should also be approachable on the younger side but don’t let the velvety mid-palate fool you as this is clearly built to reward medium to even longer-term cellaring.

89-91 The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1Er Cru Cazetiers was picked on September 21 and completely destemmed. It has good intensity on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, just a touch of reduction to contend with but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry. There is good substance here, although I would have liked a little more finesse to come through on the finish.

Bright medium red. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and flowers lifted by a minty topnote. Not fleshy or fat but high-pitched and aromatic, with floral and spice flavors showing very good precision and perfume. Cazetiers in a lighter, very aromatic style, without the animal character of many examples of this premier cru. Finishes with sneaky lingering red fruits and flowers.

Winery Notes

With a beautiful deep rubis colour, the wine develops complex aromas of small red and black fruits, spices and liquorice. The mouth is generous. It shows a good structure and is powerful with silky tannins.
