Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Indeed, Sicilian wineries are famed for their ability to capture something of the sun-drenched region in their wines, and the vines they cultivate benefit enormously from the almost constant sunshine and the incredibly fertile volcanic soils which typify the island.

The 2022 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico Dorilli is dark and brooding in the glass. Crushed ashen stones and exotic spices give way to mentholated herbs and blackberries on the nose. The palate is cool toned and pliant, with ripe red and blue fruits as perfumed inner florals amass toward the close. Fine tannins coat the palate as the 2022 finishes with staining length and depth, leaving a tart wild berry concentration to fade slowly.

An elegant red, with plumped cherry, raspberry and fig fruit laced with delicate cinnamon and potpourri accents and backed by a tang of plum skin acidity. A touch of tar underscores the fruit and lingers on the finish. Nero d'Avola and Frappato. Drink now through 2030. 1,083 cases made, 50 cases imported.

Winery Notes

Aromas of ripe black cherry with cardamom, vanilla and cinnamon. The tannin – mature, soft, rounded – dissolves in the mouth thanks to the incredible sweetness of the fruit. The oriental spices combine with the complex flavours of smoked pancetta, cooked must, marjoram and prickly pear. Extraordinary with well-peppered roast pork chops. Its savoury complexity pairs well with braised, oily fish cooked in liquid, and can also match well with spicy Asian-style fish.
