Today, the island is one of Italy's primary wine regions, and even though over eighty percent of Sicily's grapevines are used for the production of sweet fortified wines, the remaining wineries making other wine styles are renowned around the world for their quality and character. Indeed, Sicilian wineries are famed for their ability to capture something of the sun-drenched region in their wines, and the vines they cultivate benefit enormously from the almost constant sunshine and the incredibly fertile volcanic soils which typify the island.

The 2023 Vino Bianco G - Contrada Modica opens with a savory and intense blend of fermented ginger, pine shavings, herbal tea leaves and wet stones. It showcases purity with a vivid mix of yellow apple, Asian pear and tantalizing acidity. This closes a bit short, leaving a mineral stain to mingle with hints of spice. The 2023 is a wild Grillo, but it won't be for everyone.

Winery Notes

100% Grillo from the east-facing Contrada Modica vineyard, planted in 2011, trained in guyot. 360m above sea level, sedimentary soil with sandy topsoil. Harvested at the end of August at yields of 40hl/ha. The grapes were destemmed and crushed, with free-run juice fermenting and aging in stainless steel. Sulfur is added only at bottling.
