92-94 The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru is marked by higher acidity than other Premier Crus. It has a powerful bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and scorched earth aromas, developing floral scents with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, the 30% whole bunch neatly integrated. The harmonious, beautifully poised finish lingers long in the mouth. Excellent.

Les Chaffots is a comparatively elevated Premier Cru, situated above the Clos St Denis on a steep slope. The resulting raciness and freshness is a a real advantage in a vintage like 2018, producing a wine that is deeply coloured, intensely floral and well balanced, with appealing minerality and bite and deftly applied 30% whole bunches and new wood.

The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots wafts from the glass with aromas of plums, cinnamon, peonies, orange rind and raw cocoa. Medium-bodied, fine-boned and lively, it's bright and nicely concentrated, with youthfully chalky tannins and a saline finish. As usual, this is one of the more tightly wound premiers crus in the range, with an elegant, rather ethereal profile, and it will reward bottle age.
