A blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Clos Saint-Martin is massive and deeply layered, with dense black fruits, truffle, chocolate, crushed stone, and floral notes. Full-bodied and powerful, it has great freshness, fine tannins, and remarkable purity. Aged for 20 months in 60% new oak barrels and 40% amphorae, this structured and mineral-driven wine will need time but should evolve gracefully for 30+ years. Total production: 416 cases.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

The 2022 Clos Saint-Martin is a gorgeous, sensual beauty from Proprietor Sophie Fourcaud-Rieffers. Élevage has added striking finesse to complement the wine's imposing structure. The result is a wonderfully complex, deep Clos Saint-Martin that hits all the right notes. A blast of dark cherry, spice, tobacco, cedar and new leather punctuates the plush, explosive finish. What a sensational wine.

This blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon presents a rather classy nose, with a core of savoury dark fruits, all currant, blackberry and dark chocolate, interwoven with a fine mesh of perfumed, sandalwood oak. This is followed by a very harmonious and delineated start to the palate, which slowly reveals fresh and juicy summer berries, all dark blackberry, black cherry and raspberry, with threads of dark chocolate and toasted oak, with a tangible tobacco-laced texture. An exceptionally smart St Emilion here, one which combines the vintage’s density of fruit in a harmonious fashion with handsome oak and savoury structure. A star performance. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is a very sensible 14%.

Deep and complex with a touch of olives, white pepper and charcoal to the fruit of ripe but fresh blackberries, sweet plums and a touch of licorice. The tight-grained tannins give it real structure and fine-boned gravity. This is compact, focused and long. Needs some time to soften. Drink from 2028.

A ripe red, with açaí, blackberry and black cherry compote flavors wrapped in warm cocoa and melted licorice notes. Worn cedar and chestnut hints lurk underneath on the dark, smoldering finish. Offers a little more heft than purity but is solid. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2026 through 2038. 913 cases made, 100 cases imported.
