The 2024 VZ Branco tastes very young and fresher when tasted next to the 2023. Here, blending is an important part of the wine, which was produced with some field blend of old vines and also Viosinho, Rabigato, Códega de Larinho, Gouveio and Arinto. It was partly fermented and aged in new and used 225- and 500-liter French oak barrels. The wood is quite subtle and elegant, but it’s there. The wine has contained ripeness, 12.5% alcohol and 6.3 grams of acidity, reflecting the cooler year. It’s clean, expressive and vibrant, with a faint bitter twist in the finish. 10,656 bottles and 391 magnums produced. It was bottled in October 2025.

Today, the varied terroir and climate across Portugal allows a great range of wines to be made each year, from the fresh and dry Vinho Verde wines to the famous and widely drunk fortified Port wines, and many in between.

Douro

The undisputed jewel in Portugal's crown is the beautiful wine region of Douro, located along the banks of the river from where it gets its name. The region itself is renowned around the world for its range of wonderfully aromatic fortified wines, as well as a wide variety of still red and white wines made from native grape varietals. Wineries in the Douro region utilize a huge amount of different local grapes for their characterful wines, but generally the most popular are made from Tinta Roriz, a rich and flavorful red wine grape related to Spain's flagship Tempranillo. However, there are plenty of different red and white grape varietals used in the region, all benefiting from the excellent hot weather and mineral rich terroir which characterizes the Douro valleys.

Van Zellers & Co VZ Douro White is produced with indigenous Douro grapes, found in older vineyards, grown in the Murc?a district at around 500 m altitude. This wine is Crafted by Hand, which means that the blending is one of the most important parts of winemaking. We blend different vineyards to produce a wine that is fresh, with lemon zest, lemon tree leaves, a hint of floral notes and a mineral mouthfeel. Long and intense, this wine will age beautifully in bottle.
