The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétille 1er Cru has more minéralité and terroir expression than Bichot’s preceding Clos des Mouches Blanc. Fine delineation, crushed stone filtering through red apple and pear scents with hints of shaved almond in the background. The palate is fresh and lively on the entry, harmonious with a keen thread of acidity, as touches of wild peach and nectarine lead to a pert finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Of all the white wine grape varietals, surely the one that has spread the furthest and is most widely appreciated is Chardonnay.
