There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. This blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese is dark and luscious, with overlapping melodies of tobacco, spice, dark fruit and grilled herb. There is so much depth and power. This vintage is a gem for your cellar, and the wine should award a long aging trajectory for those who have the patience to wait.

The vintage where Davide assisted Luca with the blend for the first time, the 2015 Grattamacco is also the first vintage with Cassavecchia added into the blend. (They also shifted to organic viticulture with this vintage.) A dark red color, the nose of the 2015 reveals layered notes of black cherries, delicate menthol, pine, forest floor, and dried lavender. The palate is full-bodied, with broader shoulders, and it expands with ripe tannins, even acidity, and a long and sunny feel on the finish. The ripening in this vintage was seven days earlier than in 2016. It is still very young but has a more immediate feel in terms of vintages overall for this estate. Drink 2026-2040.
