A Rare Tasting of Realm Cellars
We had an incredibly rare opportunity afforded us recently to taste through a lineup of Realm Cellars wines. Man, what a lineup!
First off, the Sauvignon Blancs and Rosé are just wildly aromatic and delicious. Perhaps one of the more interesting and delicious rosés I’ve ever had!
Moving on to the Cabernets—this is where their newfound cult-like status really starts to kick into high gear. The Bard, which is their “entry level,” is opulent, powerfully ripe, and perfectly Napa without going fully over the top. But when I got to the Moonracer, their single-vineyard estate wine from Stags Leap District, the full realization of their potential became evident. Benoit Touquette makes the wines here, so you are getting 100-point winemaking in every bottle!
The Moonracer is nuanced, rich, deep, almost haunting aromatically, and long, long, long. It is a wine that belongs with a big steak, and it will definitely reward some cellaring.
