Glass of rosé on picnic blanket in a field

Chris’s Summer 2025 Wines to Remember

What I Drank This Summer: In a word, rosé, is what I drank this summer. Lots of rosé. I find that dry rosés go with so much summer fare: grilled chicken, salads, turkey burgers, etc.

Here are my main choices this summer:

Buttonwood Grove Rose

Buttonwood Grove Rosé

A representative from the vineyard in the Finger Lakes stopped in to show us a few of their wines. This rosé was a standout amongst some great wine. It’s bright and fresh with pretty aromas and flavors of fresh strawberries.

La Torre Alle Tolfe Rosato "Lunella" IGT

La Torre Alle Tolfe Rosato “Lunella” IGT 2024

I was fortunate to visit this estate in Tuscany a few years ago. While there they served a delicious rosé that they did NOT export! I guess they changed their minds because here it is now! This is on the darker, more savory side of rosé. It is fantastic with grilled cheeseburgers.

Tenuta Sant'antonio Scaia Rosato

Tenuta Sant’antonio Scaia Rosato 2024

Every year I look forward to the new vintage of this rosé. First of all, it is always delicious! So many fresh fruit notes, peaches, melon and apricots. But my favorite part is this white pepper note on the finish. It’s also very wine-geeky being made from 100% Rondinella. Which is one of the main grapes of Amarone.

Daniel Crochet Sancerre Rose

Daniel Crochet Sancerre Rose 2023

Another tried it and loved it wine. Although I’ve had previous vintages before. This is always a great wine and the 2023 is lovely. While it looks pale it packs a punch of raspberries and watermelon. Don’t worry that it’s a 2023 most dry rosés can and do age very well for a few years.

Now it wasn’t ALL rosé this summer, just mostly. Here are some other wines I really enjoyed this summer:

Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses

Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses 2019

Olga Raffault was a force of nature. She had to take over the family estate after her husband’s sudden passing just after WWII. But she prevailed and they have been making beautiful Cabernet Franc for decades. In the summer I like to put a slight chill on this one.

Domaine Charles Gonnet Altesse Roussette de Savoie

Domaine Charles Gonnet Altesse Roussette de Savoie 2024

I discovered this gem a few vintages back. Altesse is the name of the grape and it is grown almost exclusively in the Savoie region of France. This has so much going on. It is very floral on the nose with aromas of orange blossom and fresh peaches. The peaches follow through in the mouth combined with ripe grapefruit and a hint of melon. The finish is dry and balanced with just the right amount of acidity.
