Long Term Pre-arrival Definition: Ordering wine directly through us from our supplier partners in Europe in advance of the item’s physical arrival in the US.
Long Term Pre-arrival sales ensure you’re getting the best possible price and that you have also secured the product before it hits the normal retail supply chain. The lead time for Pre-arrival goods is generally 4–8 months, sometimes longer based on supply chain and the logistics of transporting goods overseas. The expectation, from our team, is to communicate to the customer the location of their purchase every step of the way.
This product is offered as a full case purchase option, minimum order quantities may be applicable. When available, multiple case options will be presented. If you are purchasing a Pre-Arrival item you must order a solid case.
Rapid Ship
Items listed as "rapid ship" are in stock and available for immediate pickup or shipment. Those that do not have the "rapid ship" icon are housed with our supplier and must be transferred to our warehouse before they can be picked up or shipped. This requires 4-6 business days but usually occurs sooner. Some products will list both options of availability as there will be a certain number in stock, with the option to order additional bottles to be transferred from the supplier.

There are just seven barrels of the 2022 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines, which was destemmed and brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. It has classic cassis and darker berry fruits as well as lifted incense, violets, spice, and gamey, bouquet garni-like nuances. With medium to full-bodied richness, it’s nicely balanced, has a layered, focused mouthfeel, ripe yet building tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It’s just about impossible to find in the market, but it’s a brilliant wine that deserves 2-3 years in the cellar and will evolve gracefully. Drink 2027-2047.

The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. The region itself is split into two distinct sub-regions, with the northern sub-region being famed for its production of exceptional Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines, packed full of interesting character and expressing the terroir found there. The southern sub-region is home to an enormous variety of grapes, and produces red, white and rosé wines, and some of the world's most famous and adored blended wines. The continental climate of the region is ideal for growing grapes, and the winds which blow from the Central Massif help temper the heat in the vineyards, leading to very ripe fruits holding plenty of flavor.

Derived from the lieu-dit La Fontaine, which boasts multiple orientations—northeast, east and south—this cuvée is not produced every vintage; for example, 2021 was blended into the Vieilles Vignes. The 2022 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines evokes a complex, dense and vibrant bouquet of spices, dark wild berries, mulberries and flowers. Full-bodied, satiny and dense, the wine features a deep, fleshy core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, aromatic and lively finish. Fermented with 30% whole bunches and matured in new barrels, I suspect it will emerge as the king of the cellar after 10 to 15 years of aging.

A powerful, firmly structured Cornas, with beautiful freshness to its plum and anise notes as they take on a strong, savory dimension, layered with woodsy forest floor, bay leaf and oregano. Tangy, racy acidity pumps through, and smoky, bitter iron carries on the finish, with firm tannins giving this an austere feel now. This needs cellar time to reveal its full potential. Best from 2027 through 2040. 202 cases made, 23 cases imported.

Bottled on the morning of my visit, the 2022 Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines hails from the glass with ripe blackberry, black cherry, licorice, vanilla and a touch of black pepper. Crushed violets add a floral layer. Gently structured by ripe tannins and layered, the 2022 is a tasty Cornas destined for a long life in bottle. That said, it demands at least two more years to come around.
