The 2020 Contador feels a little more civilized than the 2021 I tasted next to it. The profile is similar—ripe dark fruit, spices, creamy oak (neatly integrated) and a touch of earth, smoke and toast. The palate is full-bodied and the tannins abundant and fine, and the wine comes through as ripe (15% alcohol) but in balance. It's approachable now but should get polished and more elegant with a few more years in bottle.

Lots of oak here, and it will need a few years to integrate. But luckily there is concentration to hold it up. Aromas of walnuts, coffee, cream, incense, spiced blackberries, warm stones and oyster shells, followed by a bold, full-bodied palate with lots of tannins. Ample, concentrated and muscular style with lots of extraction, but the tannin quality is quite impressive. Very long, vertical and broad-shouldered. Sophisticated winemaking here, even though it is a little hard to decipher any terroir indicators. Promising. Needs at least 3 to 4 years to come around. Drink from 2025.
