Deep black-red in colour, with head-turning aromas of ripe plum and sweet damson qualified by a subtle calfskin and vellum allure: the classic, quasi-visceral appeal of great Pomerol. Dense and detaining on the palate, the plum juices darkened by plum-skin density, grip and richness. A finely crafted Pomerol with a great future ahead of it, yet almost irrestistable now. 2019-2030. (Best in Show) – DWWA 2018
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.
France, often regarded as the heart of the wine world, boasts a rich history, diverse terroirs, and a captivating variety of grape varietals. From the renowned vineyards of Bordeaux to the picturesque landscapes of Burgundy, France offers a wine lover’s dream journey. Whether you’re new to the world of wine or a seasoned enthusiast looking […]
Bordeaux: The Pinnacle of Terroir Expression In the illustrious realm of wine, Bordeaux stands as a beacon of excellence, where history, tradition, and terroir converge to create some of the world’s most iconic wines. Bordeaux’s rich mosaic of vineyards is characterized by the left bank, right bank, and the sweet symphony of Sauternes. Each of […]
Pomerol, a distinguished appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank, stands as a vinous jewel celebrated for its exceptional Merlot-dominant red wines. What makes Pomerol unique is its relatively small size, allowing for an intimate focus on individual vineyards and an emphasis on artisanal winemaking. Unlike many Bordeaux regions, Pomerol does not have a formal classification system, placing the spotlight on each estate's intrinsic quality and distinct terroir.
Merlot thrives in Pomerol's clay-rich soils, crafting wines of opulence, velvety texture, and alluring plum and black cherry notes. Iconic châteaux like Pétrus and Le Pin showcase the pinnacle of Pomerol's winemaking prowess. The absence of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blends further accentuates the appellation's uniqueness. Pomerol wines are revered for their approachability in youth and the ability to evolve gracefully over time, exemplifying the timeless elegance and allure of this exceptional Bordeaux appellation.

Impressive and deep-set plums, cherries and violets, not to mention licorice and lightly spicy oak-derived accents, meet with mocha on the nose. The palate has a really impressive core of fleshy, bright red-plum and blueberry flavors all wrapped in supple tannins that have freshness and effortless depth. Try from 2022. (Suckling)

I tasted the 2015 Château Beauregard on two separate occasions and it’s a medium to full-bodied, elegant 2015 that has lots of Cabernet Franc showing in its pretty red and black fruits, spring flower, leafy herbs and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Possessing fine tannin, a terrific floral character, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish, give bottles a few years and enjoy through 2035. It’s worth noting that this estate was recently purchased by the Moulin family and the estate is seeing a complete renovation.

Soft and generous in feel, featuring pretty black tea and warm fruitcake aromas that infuse the core of gently mulled plum and blackberry fruit. Offers a silky structure, with the fruit and mulling spice notes lingering on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2030. 2,500 cases made.
