There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

The 2017 Croizet-Bages is bold, racy and super-expressive. Dark red cherry, smoke, licorice, tobacco and incense give this supple, impeccably balanced Pauillac tons of character. Croizet-Bages is very nicely done. The tannins need time to soften, but there is certainly a lot to look forward to.

A tight, firm palate with currant and raspberry character, as well as citrus undertones. Medium body. Crisp and creamy tannins. This is all in a tight, focused package. A little lean, but nicely crafted. Drink after 2021.

It is a little shy to begin, soon unfurling to offer notes of mulberries, black raspberries, and redcurrant jelly with hints of pencil lead, bay leaves, and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate is finely textured with elegantly styled red and black fruits, supported by bold freshness, finishing long and minerally.
